WHAT ARE YOU WORTH?

The world for so long has defined our value. We place our worth in things like grades, money, success, fame, etc. So what happens when we fail or we no longer our no. 1 or lose our fame and fortune? What becomes of us. We crumble and fall and accept defeat. We lose our self-confidence and worth. The world constantly reminds you that because you fell, you are absolutely worthless and slowly you start to believe it and no longer have the strength to move further. Sounds familiar. Yes, you may have read similar stories in many newspaper articles or books or seen in tv shows. Many have written about this very topic on how to build your self-esteem and self-worth. But, I will be writing from my favorite book and tell you your worth from the B-I-B-L-E.

The main problem that you and I have is we determine our value on the things of this earth when we know that the world we live in is our temporary home. In Hebrews 13:14, it says 'For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come'. All these things that determine our value will pass away but God reminds us that we need to determine our worth in Him. We become ashamed of ourselves when we do not reach the target of what the world expects of us. We are not the followers of the world but the Word. Our success, happiness, our confidence, our worth, our life should rest in God and God alone. Every person, including you and me, have a purpose, a plan that was already made by God, and that only will happen.

Psalm 139:13,14, says, For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

He created us in our mother's womb and hence we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Jeremiah 1:6 says, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; He knew you before you were born and paved the way for your future

John 1:12 says, But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

We are children of God and God is our father.

2nd Corinthians 6:18 says, And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

Romans 8:17-19 says, And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.

We are heirs to the Kingdom of God and although we will face sufferings in this world, nothing compares to the glory that will be revealed to us.

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. This the love of God for us.

Jeremiah 31:3 says, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness, I have drawn you”

Our future, our plans are not in our hands but in God's, so trust Him even when you fail

Isaiah 14:24,27 says The Lord Almighty has sworn, “Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will happen".

For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?

Isaiah 55:8-9 says “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

There are many more and this all shows how much God loves us and He tells us how much we are worth. Instead of placing our worth in things in this world, place it in God that way we will never be disappointed because we know that the world may think we are worthless but we are the sons and daughters of the Lord most high. He will encourage and support us and bring us back on our feet. He will help us to see ourselves the way that He sees us and that is my prayer for you all. I want you to see yourself the way God sees you.

When we learn to place our worth in Christ, nothing else matters but Him. This will help us to do more with what God gave us and also fulfill the purpose of God in our lives. When we go to heaven, God will ask us what we did with what God gave us? not our success, money, or grades.

Disappointments and failures will happen but it is good to know that God cares for us and is willing to carry our burden. It gives us the courage to face it and we know that when one door closes, God will open another door.

Let's pray ,

O Lord, heavenly Father, we thank you for this opportunity to come into your presence to praise you and worship you. Thank you Father for your promises, for making us your children and heirs to the Kingdom. Thank you for your love and encouragement in our time of need. We pray that we put our worth in you rather than in this world. We pray that we don't chase after things that the world thinks that determines our worth but chase after. We pray we see ourselves the way you see us. Amen
