Idols - Part 1

According to the dictionary, Idol means 'An object of extreme devotion'. What I want you all to take away from this post is to identify 'what is the idol in your life ?' What is taking up my priority over God?

We come across idolatry in the Bible when we read about the Israelites asking Aaron to make an idol for them to worship. God was furious and He went on to say "You shall have no other God than me ". But that didn't stop them from worshipping other idols. In Psalm 115:4-8, it accurately describes Idolatry

But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands.

They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.

They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.

They have hands, but cannot feel feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats.

Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.

In our modern world, do we still have idols? Of course, we do. It has become something that is much less obvious. Some of course are more obvious than others (cough cough K-POP). In simple words, our life should be centered on God. It's like the solar system, we have the sun in the center and the planets revolving around it. It's a perfect balance and if there is a slight change, it will be chaos.

There are many things in life that we give more priority to than God. We are ready to give up that time that should be spent with God or that relationship entirely.

In my personal experience, I had placed something (my studies) much more important than my time with God. I usually would start my day with my Bible study and prayer but slowly that was pushed to the back burner. Somedays, I would skip bible study, and somedays just didn't feel like praying. While I was praying also I was distracted. Then chaos ensued soon after. Only did then did I realize that I was giving my priority or making else something center in my life. I changed that and made sure I started my day with the Word of God and prayer. I was submitting to God in all the areas of my life especially my studies. I noticed a difference instantly. I became more disciplined and learned to not just rely on my strength but God and His guidance.

My intention is not to stay ' Don't study' or 'Don't work and so on but to make sure that Christ is the center of our life and our No. 1 priority. Just like the solar system, the sun is God and the planets revolving are the areas in our life. With God, being the center, everything hangs in perfect balance.

Luke 16:13 ESV

"No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

So decide today - Who will you serve.....

Prayer

O Lord heavenly Father, Forgive us Father God for giving priority to other things in our life than you. We pray for guidance to help us identify the idols in our life and correct them. Help us to make you the center of our life and submit all the areas of our life into your hands. Amen-
