I’m Anxious...I don’t know what to Do
Anxiety is a feeling we are all too familiar with. For some, it’s a daily struggle and for others time to time. We become paralyzed with fear of the uncertain. We become numb, hopeless and we do not know what to do. What do you do?
In 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. That’s it. Pretty simple but why is it so hard? When God gives us this chance to let it all go and give it to Him. Why don’t we take it?
We cannot seem to relinquish control over our lives. We like to know what is happening and we like to know the plan. To just sit there and not do anything is something we can’t do. The Bible says
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Proverbs 16:3 NIV
Trust the Lord with your fears, your doubts, and your worries, and know that He will take care of it. He has planned and everything out and we just need to have faith. In exchange for your worries, He gives you peace.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Don’t you want that peace?
When you face a tough situation, worries do come but don’t let it stick for long enough to go to your heart. Guard your heart against the worries and instead do this
Pray
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6 NIV
Immediately pray to God and it doesn't matter where you are. Whether you are in the kitchen or in a store or at work. Prayer is such a powerful weapon and in place of that, He will give you the peace that gives all understanding. The situation might be the same but He gives you renewed strength and courage to face it.
2. Praise and Worship your worries away
“Rejoice always,”
1 Thessalonians 5:16 NIV
This is my favorite after prayer. Just praising the Lord gives me so much joy and happiness that instantly lifts me up and reminds God in control. Just lift up your hands my friends and praise the Lord on High and let His joy, peace, and happiness fill your heart.
3. Remember God‘s promises
Fear not has been written 365 times in the Bible. He reminds us every day to not be afraid because He is with us. When you are worried, open the Word of God and let it guide or recite His promises and keep it in your heart. It gives us the assurance that we need. This is His promise to you.
Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
4. Talk to someone
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
Talk to someone who will guide you through the Word and help you. Someone who will encourage and support you will lift up your Spirit. The angel Gabriel came with good news to Mary that she was going to be the mother of the Savior of the World. She was also that Elizabeth is pregnant as well. This was after Mary said how it was possible as she was a virgin. Maybe she needed to see for herself what she heard was true or she needed some encouragement or she was running away. We do not know but when Elizabeth saw her she said “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
She must have felt so much more encouraged and filled with hope and praise to God because after that we see Mary's song of praise to the Lord. Sometimes all we need is a little encouragement from our loved ones and that will refresh our soul.
Also isn't it amazing to see God looking out for Mary mentioning Elizabeth is pregnant and the Holy Spirit makes known to Elizabeth that Mary is going to be pregnant with Jesus. God works in amazing ways.
In times of our anxiety, we think will it ever come to pass. It's been a while since you are dealing with this problem. Sometimes fear just takes over you and you can't do anything about it. Maybe you have been in this storm far too long but in Isaiah 43:1-2, God promises that He is with us through the storm, even through the fire and He won't let it overtake you.
Isaiah 43:1–2
But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
I leave you with this verse to always remember and keep in your heart
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
