How to study the Bible
We all know the importance of not just reading but also studying the Bible. I have mentioned many times how we should grow and increase in the knowledge and wisdom of God. I want to share how I study the Bible every day and maybe there might be something useful that you can pick up. This is what I do and what I find most effective for me.
Top of the To-do List
It should be the first thing you do in the morning and at the top of the to-do list. Start your day with the encouraging Word of God and prayer. It will make a lot of difference to your day and you can start off on a good note.
Finding a quiet place
It is important to be in a place where there are no distractions so that you can focus on the Word of God. Any that diverts your attention must be removed so that you can fix your eyes on something more important
Pray before you start
Say a word of prayer before you start the bible study. Ask Him to give you guidance, counsel, and the wisdom to understand and to make known that you are listening to Him.
Read the chapter
Read the designated chapter first to get a general idea of what the chapter is about and highlight any key verses that speak to you. Also, I would like to say you don't have to read the entire chapter maybe 1st five verses or 10 because what happens is that you will either forget the idea of what you read or you will find it hard to do an in-depth study with all that information.
Study materials
I use a site called enduring word which has in-depth and detailed commentary and I find it a good source but you can use any source, even a devotional. I also have a study Bible which also has detailed notes on each chapter which I used sometimes to cross-reference.
Take Notes
There will be some verses or points that might be very informative and give you a really good insight. Note it down so that you can keep referring to it and remind yourself. I don't like writing all over the Bible but I would write some really important key points in my Bible.
Reflect
Take some time to reflect on what you have just learned and how you can implement it in your life.
Take time to study the Bible
Spend some time to understand and don't rush. Let God guide you and teach you through the Word.
End with Prayer
Thank God for what He has taught you today and reflect on what you have learned and asking God to help that word abide in you to lead you to the truth and apply it in your life
Don't forget to share
The Word that you have learned, of course, share it with others and this will not help you but also help grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God and cement what you have learned.
Group Bible study
Having a group of people to study the Bible with you is a great idea. It keeps you accountable and you can hear different perspectives and grow richer in faith and knowledge and also fellowship
Hope this was helpful. This is how I do it and my goal is to help you guys navigate and if there is any tip you liked, you can follow it. God bless you all and continue to grow in the wisdom of God.
