Commitment Issues
As we go through life, we face a lot of uncertainties about our future especially today. Constantly worrying about where we will be in our life. There is a question that we hear quite often "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?". Just thinking about it makes you worried, at least for me. We are people with a lot of dreams and aspirations and wonder whether any of them will come true.
I wanted to share something I read in Proverbs 16 that reminds me to entrust my plans, goals, and future to the Lord.
Proverbs 16: vs 1,3,4,9
1 We can make our own plans,
but the Lord gives the right answer.
3 Commit your actions to the Lord,
and your plans will succeed.
4 The Lord has made everything for his own purposes,
even the wicked for a day of disaster.
9 We can make our plans,
but the Lord determines our steps.

1 We can make our own plans,
but the Lord gives the right answer.
- The truth is the Lord knows the future so He indeed knows the right answer as said in vs 1. We have a plan and we trust God to guide us with the plan because He knows what will be at the end of that road or what will be the outcome of that plan. So I agree with Solomon that this is why we need to trust God with our plans because He knows the answer
3 Commit your actions to the Lord,
and your plans will succeed.
- What determines the success of the plan? Some decisions fail and some succeed. We blame God when it fails and credit ourselves when it succeeds. Commit it to the Lord your plans and He will guide you to make the right plan. If you fail, it's not the end of the world, it means there is something better awaiting you. Just ask for guidance from God to help you and it may help you to understand God's perspective rather than yours.
9 We can make our plans,
but the Lord determines our steps.
- This is a reminder after the above verse that we can make many plans without God but whatever He has planned only that will happen.
4 The Lord has made everything for his own purposes,
even the wicked for a day of disaster.
- He is our creator and has a plan for each and everything even the wicked. In Jeremiah 1:5, we see God telling Jeremiah that He knew Jeremiah before he was formed in the womb and He already set him apart to be a prophet to the nations. How amazing it is to know that God has planned out every single detail of our life. Proverbs 16:33 says "We may throw the dice, but the Lord determines how they fall". Back in the day, they use to cast lots to make various decisions. It says even the dice or lots that were cast are also planned by God. The things that we say as luck in situations like this are actually determined by the Lord.

Isn't this very reassuring to know that God has planned everything in our life, in its season and in its time. God knows our every move and wants to help but are we willing to submit to God our plans and wait patiently for Him to lead us in the way He wants us to go? But what do they call it, commitment issues? I think that is the accurate word for it.
Even I do. I struggle with committing my plans to God. I chose to spend my time overthinking, worrying, and imagining situations that will probably never happen, and I feel exhausted, unable to sleep, and just tired. It's like you are in a ship and there is a storm happening. You know the captain will be to handle it but seeing the waves, you doubt whether he can do it. In some cases, you might try and ignore the instructions of the captain and try to do it yourself. Well, it's not the greatest analogy of the world but I hope you get the idea. I have to learn to let go of my doubts and trust God to take me through the storm and stop trying to do the job for him but let Him do it because He knows how to do it best. So this year of uncertainties, let us then learn to commit our ways to the Lord and to trust Him to guide us to make every decision in our lives. Amen
